First look at the poster for The Romantics starring Anna Paquin. The film, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January, was written and directed by Galt Niederhoffer. Featuring an all star cast including Katie Holmes, Josh Duhamel, Anna Paquin, Malin Akerman, Adam Brody, Dianna Agron with Candice Bergen and Elijah Wood, “The Romantics” is about a tight knit group of college friends who reunite for a wedding of two of their own.

The film will be in theaters from September 10.

Despite gathering storm clouds before the ceremony, literally and figuratively, this is a pretty light genre film with the occasional juicy confrontation to spice up the party. Theatrically, “Romantics” will be embraced by the over-25 set primarily, though wedding movies seem to play across many age groups. Box office potential appears to be modest.

The tone is a little more subtle than (500) Days of Summer, but you could imagine them as a double feature. If The Romantics found its way to the right studio, it could make a great date movie. Teenagers may be bored by it, but those who are a little older, perhaps ready to take the next step in a relationship, will find a lot to like.

Galt Neiderhofer’s film The Romantics, which features stage veterans Katie Holmes and Anna Paquin, will screen out-of-competition at the Sundance FIlm Festival in Utah next month.

The film, which revolves around eight college friends who reunite for a wedding, will also feature Josh Duhamel, Malin Akerman, Elijah Wood, Adam Brody, Rebecca Lawrence, and Jeremy Strong.

Also added to the Sundance lineup is Lisa Cholodenko’s The Kids Are All Right. starring Annette Bening, Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo, Mia Wasikowska, and Josh Hutcherson.

Anna was spotted arriving on the set of “The Romantics” in Long Island, New York on November 5.

Katie Holmes may have found romance with Tom Cruise in real life, but on the big screen she’s still looking for love. The actress has signed on to star opposite Anna Paquin in the upcoming indie romantic comedy, The Romantics.

According to Variety, the film originally starred Liv Tyler but she has recently been replaced with Holmes, who will also serve as an executive producer. The movie is set to start filming this week.

Holmes is just the latest to sign on in what is quickly becoming an all-star cast. Anna Paquin, Josh Duhamel, Malin Akerman, Elijah Wood, Adam Brody and Jeremy Strong are already on board.

The story follows the uncomfortable love triangle between a maid-of-honor (Holmes), a bride (Paquin) and a groom (Duhamel).

So with Holmes just finished with a role in the upcoming horror film Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, and Paquin thrilling fans as Sookie in True Blood, it looks like The Romantics will have plenty of star talent to go around.
